ITALIAN Wine Tasting this Thursday Evening. 12/20 5:30-7:30 $9 tasting fee
This week we are tasting ICardi. Come check it out.

Established in 1914 and headquartered in Castiglione Tinella, ICardi is located at the boundary between two renowned vineyard terroirs – Langa and Monferrato. In the early 1960s, the Icadri's decided to vinify the vines they owned, instead of selling of their fruit. They are an innovative producer that has a through understanding of the agricultural element in wine production.
Claudio, oenologist, has carried on and developed the work his father began, and expanded the company thus reaching the current extent 75 hectares that spread partly around company historical site and partly over different municipalities in Langa and Monferrato. The vocation of this deal of lands fosters wine quality, staking on organic cultivation and on 10 hectares dedicated to organic and biodynamic techniques.
The ICardi style style is renowned worldwide – highly fruity wines, whose style is characterized by extreme refinement, cleanliness and elegance, and whose flavour is balanced from the very beginning. A balance achieved in the most important wines as well, whose peculiarity may be appreciated in the short period.
I Vini:
09 Moscato d'Asti - One of the most classic traits of this excellent Moscato is the rampant flavor of white flowers on the nose and on the palate. Clean and fresh, with a slight frizzante, this is perfect with cheese, fruit, or light desserts.
09 Cortese L'Aurora- This is the same grape that goes into Gavi. Rich and mouth-filling, with tropical subtle pineapple notes balanced by mineral elements and nice citric acidity. Really, it's got something for everyone and works equally well with food or without. According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Cortese L’Aurora is very beautiful in 2009. Ripe, juicy peaches and flowers come together nicely in this round, refreshing white."
06 Barbera d'Alba- "The Icardi Barbera Suri d’ Mu 2006 is full of furious power and sweetness of fruit. Rich and invigorating the wine has an excellent harmonious flavor that shines with blackberry and iced vanilla. Spices are concentrated and alive with hints of soft purple fruits and an impressive energetic finish. 95pts Luca Maroni
07 Pinot Nero- "With fruit reminiscent of Pinot Noir from Burgundy, nuances of velvety rich fruit and tea spice softly enchant the palate. Seductive and enthralling tannins perfectly balance the fragrance of fruit and a subtle scent of oak. Powerful and majestic, this bold Pinot finishes with refined elegance and a note of aged balsamic, cherry, and vanilla." 98pts Luca Maroni's'Annuario dei migliori vini italiani' (Annual Guide to Italian Wine)
06 Montubert Barbaresco- Claudio Icardi’s 2006 Barbaresco Montubert is an attractive, fruit-driven Barbaresco bursting with generous dark cherries, plums, spices and flowers. The wine possesses excellent length and soft, polished tannins that make it accessible with a minimum of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016."- WA 90pts
